Landscape Bench, 2025
raw recycled clay, silica sand, kyanite, paper pulp
6 x 3 x 0.75ft

A summer research project : thinking about how we can become part of the landscape, how to encourage one to pause and take time instead of just passing through. An invitation to listen, to watch, to smell. Multi sensory experience, the bench as an earthen link between body and place. Clay as a material to embrace to body, to be held by the earth.

This piece was mainly about the dynamics of building as a way to understand how to approach an idea, and consider how to insert something into the outdoors. Ideally made with locally sourced clay, accessible to all bodies and mobilities. Fired in situ? Temporary or "permanent"? Lots of good information and questions formed.
